Inquest Iraq: Accountability and the War - A Public Hearing

The American Friends Service Committee invites you to a Public Hearing on the Iraq War with first-hand testimony from expert witnesses Ray McGovern, Ann Wright, Iraqi and Iraqi-Americans and Iraq vets (see bios below).

Inquest Iraq: Accountability and the War - A Public Hearing
Saturday, October 28
10AM-5PM
Northwestern University School of Law
Thorne Auditorium
375 E. Chicago

This will be a public inquiry into both the origins and ongoing operations of the Iraq War from people who have experienced it directly.

*Ray McGovern*, a former CIA analyst whose career spanned 27 years. Ray was among the intelligence community alumni/ae who created Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS), an organization that sought to draw attention to the misuse and manipulation of intelligence analysis.

*Ann Wright*, a high-ranking member of the diplomatic corps who resigned her position due to the ethical and political implications of U.S. foreign policy related to the invasion of Iraq. Since her resignation, Ann has become an outspoken peace activist.

*Naba Hameed", an Iraqi citizen and professor of biology at the University of Baghdad who is a survivor of both the U.S.-led invasion and current occupation of Iraq. Naba will travel to Chicago from her home in Baghdad to provide unique, first hand testimony from the perspective of the Iraqi citizenry.

*Raed Jarrar*, an Iraqi-American architect who was in Iraq during and after the 2003 invasion. Raed was the country director of CIVIC Worldwide, the only door-to-door casualty survey in post war Iraq. He also established an NGO called "Emaar" that implemented hundreds of community-based and humanitarian aid projects around the country on an extremely low budget.

*John Flynn*, an Iraq war veteran and member of IVAW recently completed a cross-country motorcycle journey through which he memorialized each military casualty sustained in this conflict by traveling one mile per fallen soldier.

*Garrett Reppenhagen*, an Iraq war veteran and member of Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) who has appeared in numerous publications and documentaries discussing his position on the war and a wide variety of veteran’s issues. Garrett recently testified before congress as an expert witness on the topic of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

*Dr. Dahlia Wasfi*, an American medical doctor who has relatives residing in Baghdad and Basra, and who during visits with her family, has witnessed first hand the human cost of the Iraq War. Dahlia has become a full-time public speaker and has given testimony before Congress regarding her experiences in post-invasion Iraq.

*Kayla Williams*, a former Military Intelligence soldier and Arabic interpreter in Iraq as well as the author of the memoir, /Love My Rifle More Than You/. During her tour of duty in Iraq, Kayla often found herself acting as intermediary between her fellow soldiers and the Iraq people with whom she had formed close bonds, and her testimony provides a unique glimpse into the contradictions faced by soldiers in this conflict.

Peace Fair 2006 - The Powers of Peace
OAK PARK COALITION FOR TRUTH AND JUSTICE

Sept 9, 2006 Noon – 5:00 p.m. - Scoville Park in Oak Park, IL

History

In 2005 the Oak Park Coalition for Truth and Justice (OPCTJ) in coordination with other local peace groups held the first annual Chicago area Peace Fair - and it was a great event. Almost 60 organizations set up booths, nearly 3,000 people attended, and the entertainment was outstanding. So, yes, we are going to do it again. The second annual Chicago area Peace Fair will be held on September 9, 2006 from 12 – 5 PM at Oak Park’s Scoville Park. Peace is still the issue and this time the theme is:

The Powers of Peace

We challenge each of you to show the power(s) of peace in your booths and exhibits. We know that you can do it because last year you responded to the Peace Fair theme “What Does Peace look like?” with great creativity and emotional honesty.

The Fair will consist of two elements: booths (or tables) for participating organizations and a stage for performing artists and speakers. Of course, like last year, there will also be a children’s activities area, including drawing, sign painting and story telling. We also have some plans for group activities so attendees will have the opportunity to meet and talk with other committed peace activists.

This event is open to all and will be advertised throughout the Chicago metropolitan area. Activities at your booth should be both informational and interactive, offering the chance for dialogue among those of us throughout the Chicago area who are waging peace.

OPCTJ will allocate booth space, oversee logistical preparation, including sound system(s) for performers, and have sufficient volunteers on hand during the day to help both exhibiting groups and attendees with any other needs or requests.

Details:
• Sponsor Level: Booth space plus your group’s name on all Peace Fair publicity: $50
• Exhibitor Level: Booth space by itself: $30

(These fees cover our costs of insurance, stage, sound system, logistics, etc.)

Checks should be payable to OPCTJ
