ARC 09: Re-Imagining Change; A Movement Summit

arc09May 2nd, the day after the historic May Day march for workers rights, ARC’09 will be convening “Re-Imagining Change: A Movement Summit”.

Marking the close of the first one hundred days of the Obama administration, the Movement Summit is intended to provide an opportunity for progressive activists to come together and take stock of the state of the world and the state of our movement.

Location: Little Village Lawndale High School, 3120 S. Kostner, Chicago, IL

Join organizers and activists from Chicago, Louisville, New York, D.C., Oakland, Atlanta, Detroit and elsewhere as we work to link our various grassroots struggles for social justice.

Panelists Include:

Carl Rosen, Western Region President of the United Electrical Workers, and co-organizer/supporter of the Republic Windows and Doors struggle.

Christi Ketchum, Director of Atlanta-based Project South, youth organizer, and one of the coordinators and hosts for the U.S. Social Forum

Manju Rajendran, is with Females United For Action, helping young women and genderqueer youth from Chicago using media justice organizing to stop violence as part of the Women and Girls Collective Action Network. She is also a member of Ubuntu and Southerners On New Ground (SONG), and a contributor to Left Turn Magazine.

James Thindwa is executive director of Chicago Jobs with Justice, a labor-community coalition, and a member of In These Times’ Board of Directors.

Nadia Hijab, is a senior fellow at Institute for Palestinian Studies, a prominent Palestinian-American analyst, author and former journalist who comments frequently on human rights and the Middle East, focusing on the situation of the Palestinians in particular. She is author of Womanpower: The Arab Debate on Women at Work

Bill Ayers, antiwar activist from 1960s to 2009, writer and educator for over thirty years.  Author or co-author of 20 books and educational reform advocate. [Moderator]

* Feminist Organizing at the Grassroots
* Pushing the Boundaries: GLBTQ communities and movements for social justice
* How to strengthen peace movements, oppose all wars, and demilitarize our economy and culture, and stand in solidarity with veterans and their families.
* Promoting Youth Leadership and Intergenerational Organizing
* Democracy and Education
* Palestine and its relevance to issues of regional and global stability
* How the movement for environmental justice unites all of our struggles
* Pressing for a single payer healthcare system
* Immigration and Low Wage Workers’ Struggles
* Media Justice (and popular culture) within a changing landscape
